Definitely not going to make the entire 24 hours today, but I’m going to squeeze in as much reading today as I can!

Here’s what I plan to read today:

Finish:
Joel Osteen’s I Declare

and start Ashen Winter by Mike Mullin – if it’s anything like book 1 – Ashfall - I’m not going to be able to put it down until I’m finished!

Introductory Questionnaire

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?  Texas
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?  both
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?  not planning on snacking
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!  I’ve been book blogging for several years, but just now getting into the swing of it.  I work full time as a geologist.  I love to travel to National Parks and am collecting the cancellation stamps in my NP passport.  My “extra time” tends to switch between books – reading them and scrapbooking.  My scrapbook has been neglected for about a month now.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?  I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else is reading/posting.  I want to get a lot of reading done, but also maybe catch up on some blog posts today as well as schedule some for next week since I have to go out of town for work.

WWW Hump Day

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?

How to Romance a Rake by Manda Collins & listening to City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare.  Oh yeah, I also started I Declare: Proclaiming the Promises of God Over Your Life by Joel Osteen (I think I have highlighted (virtual highlighting on my kindle, so it’s ok) everything I’ve read so far…)

• What did you recently finish reading?

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins..OMgoodness!!

• What do you think you’ll read next?

I’ve been devouring so many books on my kindle <<<love>>> that I have been neglecting those actual books on my shelves so I’m going to read one of them.

Maybe this:

Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen

Wow, R.I.P. VII???  I first joined the R.I.P. adventure back in September of 2008 – RIP III!  I can’t belive it’s that time of year again, but as always, am looking forward to the cooler weather, which is a bit relative here in Texas, and some fun books to read for this event!  I have a LONG list – I still haven’t read everything I listed 4 years ago…

In looking over my past lists (III, IV, V, VI), I was always so ambitious – so this year I still want to read 5 books for that will fall under the R.I.P. categories, but am only listing books I really think I will read in the next few weeks.

Here’s my list:

  • Ashen Winter by Mike Mullen
  • Velveteen by Daniel Marks
  • Nevermore by Kelly Creagh
  • Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Another fun part of this event is the ‘Peril on the Screen’ and my favorite new freak out TV shows are on the Travel Channel – Ghost Adventures and The Dead Files.  I love them!

This event is hosted by Carl @ Stainless Steel Droppings and it runs through September and October.  Here are some of the details:

Seven years ago that mood birthed R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril, or R.I.P. for short, a participatory event wherein we the people spend however little, or much, time we want over the months of September and October imbibing all things ghastly and ghostly.

The purpose of R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril VII is to enjoy books and movies/television that could be classified (by you) as:

Mystery.
Suspense.
Thriller.
Dark Fantasy.
Gothic.
Horror.
Supernatural.
Or anything sufficiently moody that shares a kinship with the above.

I have removed the word “challenge” from this event because it has never really fit. “Challenge” was the lingo back when I first discovered book blogs thus its previous addition to the reading events I host. While I don’t have any personal grudge against folks challenging themselves to read a certain number of books, or books outside their comfort zone, this event is primarily about the great pleasure that can be found in embracing this type of fiction/non-fiction during this season of the year.

There are two simple goals for R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril VII

1. Have fun reading.
2. Share that fun with others.
