Well I last posted in October!! Yikes! And even that post said something about not falling off the face of the earth, and while that’s still true, I seem to have fallen off the reading and blogging wagon lately.  I do have a good reason though! My husband and I are expecting!  This is our first baby and we’re so excited about all the blessings to come!  I can’t wait until June! So other than working, I’ve been busy hibernating! :)

I am hoping to get back into reading – I think my reading interests are changing a bit so hopefully I can find a book that grabs my attention and doesn’t put me to sleep (although I can’t totally blame that on the books right now).  I’m SO close to reaching my 60 book goal for this year…I’ve finished 52, but haven’t really read anything in the last few months.  I might be able to make it to 60, but am definitely going to have to scale back next year.

I do have partially written reviews in the queue to finish and post as well as a giveaway coming up later today!

So … you’ve just finished reading a book. For the sake of the discussion, we’ll say it was everything a book should be—engaging, entertaining, interesting, thought-provoking. The kind you want to gush over. The question is—do you immediately move on to your next book? Or do you take time to contemplate this writerly masterpiece and all its associated thoughts/emotions/ideas for a while first?

I have a hard time moving on after a good book! I’m definitely in a book hangover and want to stay in that world a little longer before moving on to a new one.bookhangover

First off, and most importantly, I want to thank ALL my new subscribers and followers as well as all those who have stayed with me!

I usually avoid update posts because I hate giving excuses for not posting on my blog. We all know life just gets in the way sometimes and I never want to post just for the sake of posting.  But I feel like I just fell off the earth after posting my beginning post for Dewey’s 24 hr read-a-thon over a week ago!

Dewey’s Read-a-thon – how I did…

Well Saturday turned out to be pretty busy for me and I didn’t get to read as much as I would have liked.  I did end up reading Lauren Barnholdt’s One Night That Changes Everything over the span of Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.  I completely fell off the wagon on posting updates since I was out of the house most of the day.

So then what happened…

Went out of town for work Monday-Wednesday and that’s where I missed my flight – Monday morning…boo…but I got there eventually.  I had wanted to plan some posts, but yeah, that didn’t happen.  Since then I’ve been planning in my head how to get some posts up and I finally had time to work on it. And here we are. :)   Which leads to what I’ve been reading…

WWW Wednesday

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?

Currently about a third of the way into Ashen Winter by Mike Mullen.  I’m still waiting for the can’t put it down effect that book 1 left me with…

• What did you recently finish reading?

Two weeks ago I finished Nevermore by Kelly Creagh.  I loved it!  Last Friday I finished Tamera Alexander’s To Whisper Her Name which just came out yesterday.  Also loved it.  I’ve been collecting a lot of her books, but this was the first one I had read by her.  Sunday I finished One Night that Changes Everything by Lauren Barnholdt, which was a quick fun read.  I also finished Joel Osteen’s I Declare while I was waiting at the airport for 4 hours.

• What do you think you’ll read next?

Not sure yet.  I had several books picked out to read for Halloween so maybe one of those if I can get to it soon enough.

Definitely not going to make the entire 24 hours today, but I’m going to squeeze in as much reading today as I can!

Here’s what I plan to read today:

Finish:
Joel Osteen’s I Declare

and start Ashen Winter by Mike Mullin – if it’s anything like book 1 – Ashfall - I’m not going to be able to put it down until I’m finished!

Introductory Questionnaire

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?  Texas
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?  both
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?  not planning on snacking
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!  I’ve been book blogging for several years, but just now getting into the swing of it.  I work full time as a geologist.  I love to travel to National Parks and am collecting the cancellation stamps in my NP passport.  My “extra time” tends to switch between books – reading them and scrapbooking.  My scrapbook has been neglected for about a month now.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?  I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else is reading/posting.  I want to get a lot of reading done, but also maybe catch up on some blog posts today as well as schedule some for next week since I have to go out of town for work.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish with your blog? Is it to one day become an author yourself, just for fun, maybe get some online attention, or maybe something very different?

I blog because I love sharing the books I have read and enjoyed with other book lovers.  I used to love writing when I was younger and have several notebooks full of stories and have thought it would be fun to start up again, but I have no plans for this blog to be anything other than a great place to find new friends and be a creative outlet to share bookie stuff.

I follow most blogs through google reader and twitter.  On Monday, I posted this saying how I accidentally deleted all my book blogs from my reader (I was trying to delete one feed that the link was no longer valid).  I immediately tried to undo it, but apparently you can’t.  While it was a mistake, I’m realizing now that it was a great way to start over fresh and find new favorites as well as the old ones. :)

Must be a Monday…

Funny Workplace Ecard: I'd rather enter the Hunger Games than enter the office on Mondays.

I inadvertently unsubscribed from ALL of my book blogs that I follow in my google reader…sigh…

So now I’m trying to find all those good ones again…leave a comment if you want me to subscribe to your blog! :)

Books Out the Door

Time to get rid of some books! I find that it’s always a good feeling to get rid of a few books that I have either already read and want to pass on or ones that I decide I don’t want to read anymore for whatever reason.  I’m getting better and better of only keeping the books that I really love or really want to read!

So I got rid of 2 boxes…about 35 books and a few magazines.  I only got $20 for them, but I’m glad they will be off to a new home and out of mine!

How often do you go through your library?  I need to do it more often.

Today’s question:

All things being equal, which would you prefer–a mystery? Or a love story?

Definitely would say a love story – although a little mystery is fun too.  My favorite genre is historical romance.
