This Week’s Topic is: 3 Books that Have Been on Your TBR List the Longest

So many books in the pile, so little time!!

  1. Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry – This is my all-time favorite movie and I know I’ve started McMurtry’s tome at least 2 or 3 times and I know the book will be better than the movie, so I’m not sure what is stopping me from finishing it!
  2. The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley – My cousin Mel has been trying to get me to read this one for awhile now since she loves it so much, but what if I hate it??
  3. Christy by Catherine Marshall – This one falls in the same category as Lonesome Dove. I love the TV series with Kellie Martin and Tyne Daly.  So why can’t I sit down and read the book??

Book List: Favorite Eras

This Week’s Topic is: 3 Favorite Eras to Read About

SOOO many books to list!! I’m *starting* to realize (OK, starting to “admit”) I have a series addiction…I can’t count how many series I have started and have yet to finish and there seems to always be another great one I’m only just finding out about!  Another addiction…making book lists…;)

American Frontier – Pioneers, Settlers, Cowboys, western expansion, America in the 1800s: (O Pioneers! and My Antonia by Willa Cather, One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus, Sarah Agnes Prine by Nancy E. Turner, Sarah Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan, Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Janette Oke, Robert B. Parker’s Everitt Hitch series – Here’s my review of Appaloosa.)
novels by Nancy E. Turner – need to read second two books,
  2. Victorian (1837-1901): Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Lewis Carroll, Charles Darwin, Henry David Thereau, and Edwardian Eras (1901-1910): L.M. Montgomery – Emily books, Beatrix Potter
  3. Georgian Era (House of Hanover 1714-1830:, which conveniently includes the British Regency Era (1811-1820): Jane Austen, my favorite being Northanger Abby, Pink Carnation Series by Lauren Willig – have read the 1st one and *loved* it and the next two are waiting patiently for me to get to them, Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon – have read Outlander, in which Claire is first transported back to 1743 and Dragonfly in Amber.

A Child’s Book List

This Week’s Topic is: 3 Books That You Loved As a Child

Most of us bibliophiles will find it hard to only pick 3 books. The Dr. Seuss/I Can Read All By Myself Beginner Books and Sesame Street book sets were always a staple growing up.  My mom has kept most of the kid books for the grandkids (future grandkids, mom…).  These are the ones I picked today that made me smile. :D

  1. The Berenstain Bears by Stan and Jan Berenstain- particularly The Messy Room, No Girls Allowed, Double Dare, and Go to Camp.  I loved The Messy Room, mostly because I usually had a messy room and the way they get their closet all organized…I should  probably go back and read this one…  “When small bears forget to pick up, store and stash, some of their favorite things end up in the trash.”
  2. When Grover Moved to Sesame Street by Jocelyn Stevenson …it was the best day ever!! :D Apparently this is out of print…stupid Elmo!! I <3 Grover! Can you tell I’m an 80′s child?? ;) Check out Grover at the Library.
  3. Secret of the Ninja – Choose Your Own Adventure #16 by Jay Leibold – Oh this choice makes me laugh! Not quite a classic, but I remember riding my bike, I was probably 8 or 9, down the street and reading this book.  It was the only “Choose Your Own Adventure” book I had, I’m not even sure if I was aware it was a series, but I loved deciding the fate of the ninja…”Choose from 29 possible endings!”  I’m pretty sure the cover art increased my cool factor…

I loved P.J. Funnybunny (by Marilyn Sadler) too, but these books didn’t come along until they were read to my little sister.

The Book List…Back to HS!

This Week’s Topic is: 3 Books That Take You Back to High School

  1. Shakespeare – especially Hamlet along with Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Henry IV, Part One (Seems like we read a lot of Shakespeare, but these were my favorites. I remember making a cartoon of Hamlet. I wonder if I still have that somewhere… I need a new copy of Henry IV…I dropped it in a puddle of water :( )
  2. Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters (Loved this one. We had to create our own epitaph.)
  3. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (I honestly think I only read the first page “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” but I’ve been wanting to actually read this one sometime soon.)

3 Books That Should Be Made Into Movies

This is a very interesting topic because it seems more likely than not that the books I pick to read either have already been turned into movies or are in the process of becoming movies.

1.  Outlander by Diana Gabaldon – This would be a very LONNNNNNGGG movie, maybe a TV mini series…but it’s got romance, suspense, time travel, history…and then there’s Jamie…imdb.com lists it as in development for a 2011 movie

2. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows – history, war, books, food, letters…imdb.com lists it as in development for 2011

3. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield – suspense, mystery, books
