TTTLet me just say I have WAY MORE than 10 of these!  This year I’m really trying to limit my book purchases, read the books I have on my shelf that I just had to have, and get rid of those books I am just not interested in anymore.  Easier said than done, but I have made a few trips to Half Price, sold a few boxes of books and left without any new books in my hand.  I call that a success. :D

I’m noticing all of these are YA books and I think my reading tastes are moving away from this genre, so I’m less likely to pick these up to read.

  1. A Million Suns and Shades of Earth by Beth Revis – LOVED Across the Universe!
  2. Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
  3. Avow (Archers of Avalon #3) by Chelsea Fine – SERIOUSLY need to read this!
  4. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green- I think I fell into the hype on this one
  5. Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
  6. Divergent by Veronica Roth
  7. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculia Children by Ransom Riggs – I’ve picked this one up to read a few times, but didn’t get very far after that
  8. Heist Society by Ally Carter – I have a ton of Ally Carter books and haven’t read ANY of them
  9. The Lying Game by Sara Shepard – I love the TV show and since I’ve read that the 2 are different, I just don’t know if I still want to read the books
  10. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Today’s Topic: Top Ten Series I Haven’t Finished (because either I didn’t like them, procrastinated, etc.)

This is a hard one because there are just SO MANY series out there! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE series books, but I have a bad habit of starting a new series and never getting back to it even when I loved the first book – which could be a topic unto itself.  So here’s what I came up with.

Series in which I’ve only read book #1 and LOVED:

  1. Lisa Lutz – The Spellman Files
  2. Nancy Turner – Sarah Agnes Prine
  3. Colleen Houck – Tiger Saga
  4. Beth Revis – Across the Universe – seriously need to get to A Million Suns before the 3rd book comes out in January
  5. Lauren DeStefano – Loved Wither
  6. Mike Mullin – Ashen Winter comes out in October – need to get to this one it’s on the list
  7. Kristin Cashore – Loved Graceling, waited for Bitterblue to be released, now it’s been so long I need to reread Graceling (welcome to my world…)
  8. Angie Sage – Septimus Heap – Adored Magyk – great adventure/fantasy MG book!
  9. Rachel Hawkins – Hex Hall

Trilogies in which I need to read Book #3:

  • Lisa T. Bergren’s River of Time trilogy – don’t know why I’ve procrastinated reading Torrent because I really want to know what happens!
  • Suzanne Collin’s Mockingjay – just read Catching Fire last month – DO NOT SPOIL ME! :D
  • Chelsea Fine’s Archers of Avalon series – I NEED AVOW…now…not sure when it is actually coming out
  • Cayla Kluver’s Legacy trilogy – Sacrifice comes out soon!

Multiple book series that I would like to finish:

  • Susan Wiggs Lakeshore Chronicles series – Seriously, how can she write so fast?? I’ve read the first 4 books in this series and I’m now 5 behind!
  • Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series – Read the first 2 and loved them, but the size of these babies is so daunting! Especially when you’re thinking about book read counts, which you totally shouldn’t and is WRONG but I am guilty of it and it’s been YEARS since I read these and I’m at that point where I’d like to reread the first 2 but if I spend all that time reading those 2,000 pages, how in the world will I ever finally get to book 3 much less 8?!?
  • I NEED TO read Christopher Paolini’s 4th book – Inheritance.

Series I don’t want to finish:

  • Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series – read the first 3 books in this one and while I absolutely loved the first book, the main character was starting the annoy me by books 2 and 3.  I adore Kinsella’s stand-alone books because I think she puts her characters in the most hilarious situations, just didn’t love the incessant shopaholic.
  • Madeleine L’Engle’s Time Quintet – nope, not for me…
  • Myra McEntire – Hourglass – wanted to like it…have book 2, but while I LOVED the fact that she could see ghosts in hoopskirts and other period dress, the overall story did no impress me.
  • I’m sure there’s more, I just can’t think of them now…

Series in which I obviously don’t have a clear understanding of my own feelings:

  • Another series that I’m pretty well caught up on – Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices – I’ve listened to 5 audio books with these characters, varying degrees of “listen-ability” with the narrators – I don’t love this series and yet I still want to know what happens! I just don’t love the characters – I don’t really have a favorite.  I don’t like Clary and am not too fond of Jace.  I like Simon’s character more and more over the series.  And yet when it’s time to rate the book – I give them all 3s and 4s!!  It’s weird. I didn’t like it and yet it kept me entertained.  I love the writing and the descriptions, just don’t love any of the characters.  If they die off – I’m ok with that… I guess it’s a love/hate relationship and it seems this series is going to have another spin-off.  Don’t know if I’ll follow it.
  • Same goes to Jean Auel’s Earth’s Children (Clan of the Cave Bear) series, which I’ve listened to the first 4 books on audio (LONNNNG audio books!) and at this point just want to know what happens to the main characters, without all the “oh Ayla, you’re so beautiful, so perfect, so ingenious, there’s no one like you” and the “Oh Jondalar, there’s no man on this tiny planet as manly as you”‘s.  I found there was a lot of unnecessary repetitions throughout.
  • Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey series – I originally listed this series in ones I didn’t want to finish, but then I was reading some of my previous thoughts on the books and I rated books 1 & 2 as 4 stars!  Ultimately , I couldn’t get into book 3 just waiting to read Ash’s POV in book 4… probably won’t continue the series…maybe…

  1. Of course I have to include going to Hogwarts! EEEEK! Excited just thinking about it. LOL. I was going to pick Hermione to switch places with, but I think I’m going to have to go with one of the Weasley twins…”I solemnly swear I am up to no good!” I’d post a picture from when I went to the Wizarding World at Universal Studios last year, but it’ll have to wait until I get home later.
  2. Scarlet from the Archers of Avalon series by Chelsea fine.  She’s lived so many lives…I wouldn’t be too crazy about the amnesia though…or the fact that Tristan’s touch killed me…literally…that would kinda suck. ;)
  3. Gabi from Lisa T. Bergren’s River of Time series.  Time traveling to medieval Tuscany would be pretty cool, plus conveniently running into Marcello and having him fall in love with me wouldn’t be too bad either!  Plus I love that she’s not afraid to kick some butt when she needs to!
  4. Claire from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. Time traveling again…and conveniently running into Jamie…I really need to read more of these books!
  5. Alera from Allegiance – Legacy Trilogy by Cayla Kluver…I’d like to knock Alera upside the head for being so bratty and be the Queen I think she should be…with Steldor!!
  6. One of the Ugly Ducklings in Manda Collins’ books.  All 3 of the cousins seem smart and while I loved the chemistry between Cecily and Luke in How to Dance with a Duke, I’m thinking Miss Juliet Shelby has led a pretty exciting, if somewhat secretive, life that I cannot wait to discover in How to Romance a Rake.
  7. Lucy Valentine written by Heather Webber. She can find lost objects…I think that would be pretty handy!
  8. Julia in Mary Connealy’s Out of Control. I just finished this book late last night. I love her fascination with the caverns and geology.
  9. I always wanted to be Emily from L.M. Montgomery’s Emily of New Moon series growing up.  One, I think, because her name was Emily – like me – but I also loved that she had a special spot just to write.  I really need to reread these books.
